Chris's top priorities for North Cowichan.

I’m running because I believe North Cowichan has incredible potential, but we need stronger alignment, clearer leadership, and a long-term vision for where we’re headed. I want to help create a community where families can build a life, businesses can thrive, and young people feel there are opportunities here for their future.

My vision is for North Cowichan to be one of British Columbia's most desirable communities to live, work, raise a family, and build a business.

A community where young people can see a future for themselves and have the opportunity to build a life close to the people and places they love. A community with a strong, diversified economy that creates opportunity, supports local businesses, and helps ease the tax burden on homeowners.

I believe we can become a leading example of how a growing community balances economic opportunity, environmental stewardship, and quality of life. A place that preserves what makes the Cowichan Valley special while embracing the opportunities of the future.

I want North Cowichan to be known as a community that comes together. One that listens, collaborates, and works through challenges with respect and purpose. Because when we align around a shared vision and build on our strengths together, we have a far greater likelihood of achieving our goals.

Local businesses create jobs, support families, sponsor community initiatives, and help shape the character of our region.

I believe North Cowichan should be a place where businesses can grow and succeed. That means building stronger relationships with local business owners, supporting responsible economic development, and attracting the kinds of industries and opportunities that create good-paying jobs and long-term stability.

A healthy economy benefits everyone. It creates opportunity for the next generation, strengthens our tax base, and helps ensure families can build a life right here in the Cowichan Valley.

You didn't choose to live here by accident. You chose it for the natural beauty, amazing community, the small-town feel, the sense that you actually know your neighbours. And lately you've probably felt the tension. Growth is coming whether we're ready or not, and the worry is that it arrives on its own terms instead of ours.

That worry is fair. Too often communities let growth just happen to them, and wake up one day not recognizing home.

It doesn't have to go that way here. Growth can mean more housing for your kids, more opportunity, a stronger local economy AND still protect the beauty and character that made you stay. That's not a trade-off, it's a choice about leadership: planning ahead instead of reacting, building the infrastructure to support it, and making sure your voice actually shapes the outcome rather than rubber-stamping it after the fact.

Because what's at stake is real. Get this wrong and we lose the very things we love and don’t recognize our community. Get it right and we hand the next generation a place they're proud to call home.

You know this community better than any plan or politician does. My job is to make sure where it grows reflects what you value. 

Trust isn't something that can be demanded, it's something that is earned over time through consistent actions.

I believe residents want to feel heard, informed, and included in the conversations that shape their community. That starts with listening well, communicating openly, and creating meaningful opportunities for public engagement before decisions are made.

People won't always agree on every issue, and that's okay. My goal is to foster a culture where respectful dialogue, transparency, and collaboration are the norm. When people understand how decisions are being made and feel their voices matter, trust grows.

Strong communities are built on strong relationships, and I believe rebuilding and strengthening those relationships is one of the most important responsibilities of leadership.

If you've raised kids here, you might already know the feeling. The quiet worry that the place that shaped them won't have room for them. That somewhere down the line they'll tell you the only way to build a real future is to leave. As a parent myself, I've lived it.

And too many families hear exactly that: opportunity is somewhere else. That shouldn't be the story here, not in a valley with this much quality of life, this strong a community, this much potential.

The work is making the other path possible: the conditions for young people to build careers, start businesses, raise families, and put down roots here. Because the real measure of whether we're getting this right isn't what North Cowichan looks like today. It's whether your kids and grandkids see themselves in its future.

That future is yours as much as anyone's. My job is to help build a place worth staying for.

For more than 25 years, I've led businesses, coached leaders, and worked alongside people navigating complex challenges and important decisions. Throughout that time, I've learned that leadership isn't about having all the answers; it's about listening well, building trust, bringing people together, and helping create clarity when things feel uncertain.

My experience has taught me how to facilitate difficult conversations, find common ground, and keep people moving toward a shared goal. Those are the same skills I believe are needed to help North Cowichan move forward with confidence, alignment, and purpose.

I believe the future of North Cowichan is strongest when we work collaboratively with our First Nations neighbours and partners through open communication, mutual respect, and a commitment to listening.

Meaningful partnership starts with relationship-building. It means taking the time to understand different perspectives, finding areas of shared interest, and working together on opportunities that support the long-term wellbeing of our communities, economy, environment, and future generations.

I am committed to fostering respectful, productive relationships that create better outcomes for everyone who calls this region home.
